[ENGLISH] Response to Generation Like Documentary

Do you believe that today's YouTube's stars are being exploited or empowered? Write a short persuasive piece that shares your opinion.

People of the younger generation have been greatly exposed to the Social Media and have used it as a way to express their thoughts and feelings to the general public. The "like" system has been used as to show that a person likes a content. This is a very corrupt system in social media (as well as the Views system) which can affect their behaviour. These children are being exploited by the system so that they feel a sense of validation when a person likes their YouTube video. Some have failed to achieve this status and have also resorted into completely changing their concept of their channel into something new and probably a very controversial concept which and have polarizing impacts to the community as well as towards their career reputation. One of the greatest examples that can be used is YouTuber FouseyTube also known as Youssef Erakat. At the start of his career, he have created contents going along the lines of ‘Muslim jokes’ and contents that are deemed innocent and safe for viewing for all ages. As this concept and image does not rake in a lot of views, likes and subscribers, he had started to post ‘prank’ contents (which were quite a trend at the time he started posting prank content) which were quite controversial as most contents that fall under the prank genre

Recently, there are quite a lot of YouTubers that have been selling themselves out to major companies and corporations. These YouTubers have been promoting, sponsoring and even endorsing products created by these large corporations. For example, Amazon has reached out to several YouTubers to advertise their infamous product “audible.com”. In return for advertising their product, they get money in return. YouTubers see this as an advantage to use YouTube as a job opportunity which is seen as a sustainable job by some YouTubers. Ad revenue has funded a lot of youtubers from closing their channel. These YouTubers have been exploited by the system as advertisers (large corporations and companies) target channels with high viewership as a way to easily expand their product image to the public. They are being used as a platform for advertising their products. One good example of this is Tyler Oakley. At around 8 million subscribers he has endorsed a lot of products and getting a lot of income in return. He has advertised a lot of products including Amazon’s advertising. Yet he feels that it empowers him as he gets continuous love and influences him to create more content in the future from the support he gets.
